Monsters are real

Threat Management
~We didn't go hiking this morning because Mike though he had a dentist appointment at 7:30am.It's not until next week!
~So he got an early start working on installing the front stoop security light.We took a trip to Lowe's for a better light & some wires.We dropped off Fruity Corn Muffins for the Napa Boys.
~I made another flower on the RHS Light Gray/Turqua Garland of Blossoms Scarf & finished a row on the Aphrodite shawl.
~I made Coconut Candy Bars.This version had ginger snap crust,a mix of semi-sweet/premier white chips & brazil nuts.It smelled really good while it was baking!
~I worked some more on the GoB scarf.
~We had chicken bacon cheese sammies for supper & watched 2 episodes of Heroes Season 2.

Lap Blanket

This lap blanket was called "Baby,Baby",done in pastels for a baby blanket.I used RHS Lavender,Delft Blue,Frosty Green & Cornmeal.It went to the children's hospital.

~We got groceries at WMS,Costco & Smith's with a stop at Lowes for a security light for the front stoop.

~After lunch,I made Fruity Corn Muffins,4 each apple sauce,strawberry jam & orange marmalade.

~I finished a Durango Hat in RHS Country Rose.

~Mike spent the afternoon working on installing a motion-sensor light on the front stoop.He should be able to finish it tomorrow.I picked up sticks from the front yard,just to be outside with him.

~We had bacon cheeseburger sammies for supper.

~I finished skein #5 on the Butterscotch lap blanket.I will have to check Hobby Lobby for some I Love This Yarn to make an edging.

It's very windy today.I actually left the house with my hair braided!

~I stopped at Big Lots for pork rinds,foaming hand soap & deodorant,but also found Davinci's sugar-free syrup in Caramel!

~I helped Chuck load bags at the food pantry,then cleared up the spider web in the corner of the vestibule that Ms Edla had told me about on Sunday.I also pulled dead leaves off the spider plant.Anne Malstrom gave the tree watering schedule for the fall/winter.Someone stole 2 benches from the church grounds!

~I mailed off a special package.

~After lunch,I worked on the Teal/Gray round ripple lap blanket,adding a different brand of Teal,but it turned out to be the exact same color as the second color I added.I finished it off with a round of Grey Heather sc.It is beautiful!

~We had chicken bacon cheese sammies for supper.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Hike to Shelter Rock with a stop on the way home at Smith's for yogurt,special dark cocoa & flavored waters.

~I took goodies to the Napa boys before heading to church.Afterwards,I went home & did some cleaning.

~Susie & Teagan came by about 2:30pm.After starting the roast,we sat & had tea.

~My party started at 5pm.There were 12 of us & we had a great time!

Mmmmmm!

Oatmeal Minis-basic oatmeal cookie recipe made in 24-count mini muffin tin.Topped with dark cocoa chip,butterscoth chips,premium white chips,semi-sweet chocolate chips,peanut butter chips & Craisins.These are good for tea parties,childrens parties,gift baskets & elegant brunches.

~I did 2 loads of laundry before Susie came by with Teagan at 9am.They had breakfast then we went out,doing yardsales for a while.I found a bag of tiny gourds(50cents) & a bag of various thin brushed yarns($2).We had brunch at Weck's.

~I cleaned up the back porch,trimmed the rose bush,cleaned up the flower bed & swept up the leaves from the alley.
~I made a 9 3/8" doily in Frosty Green using the center of a thread dishcloth in an 8-point star design.It was supposed to have individual flowers around the edge,but I left thse off & made a shell edge instead.It's pretty!
~I made Mike a bacon cheeseburger sammie for supper.
~I worked on the Butterscotch lap blanket.

Almost true!

Last night,around 12am,Jake started barking his head off.Mike went to investigate(with his 1911) & saw a man outside.When Mike pulled the side curtain of the front window back,the man shined a flashlight in the window.Mike told him to get the light out of his face.When the man did,he saw it was an APD officer.He was looking for the APD officer who moved 4 houses up from us last week.I was in the hallway,with my Kahr K40 at low-ready.It was scary & took us about an hour to calm back down.But,we were more prepared with the classes we had been taking.

~Hike to Shelter Rock,still cool but no wind.

~I had a Daughters of the King training class with Ms Edla at 9:30am.I got there early & dug weeds from the church parking lot.The meeting went well.

~I dropped off a dozen mixed baked good for the Napa boys.

~After lunch,I made a Little Octopus in Lemonade.This looks to be vintage Caron Dazzleaire with the slight sparkle/fuzz.

~I added a row to the Aphrodite shawl & worked on scrap granny squares.

~We had bacon cheeseburger sammies for supper.

Hat Sold!!

I sold a Wenatchee Hat in Brick Heather/Wood Symbols to Ann in ME.

~I tried my hand at wool felting,making a bowl with one strand each worsted wool yarn in Harvest gold & Navy Blue.The waste of water & time was not worth the not-good felting of the bowl.I will continue to use the wools for cell cozies & flower pins.

~I swept the floors,making sure to get the HUGE hairballs out from under the washer/dryer/dishwasher & sofa.EEWWW! I did find an earring I had been missing.

~After an early lunch,I went to Albertson's for 3 for $7 Coke products & got money for "date nite".

~At the church,I watered the roses,swept the steps to the basement & scooped up some dead flowers/leaves.

~We handed out 20 bags(2 earlier in the week) at the food pantry & had to turn away 2 people.

~Back home,after looking at the mail,I took a letter to 11005 Brentwood Hills NE that had been mistakenly deliver to our address.

~I worked on the Teal/Gray round ripple lap blanket.

~At the range,with 10 people,we learned how to clear rooms.I did better with combat reloads & single head shots.The practice I did at home last week has paid off!

Fireplace chair

The neighbors across the street had this armchair in front of their house with a "free" sign on it.I snatched it up!I added the fabric(from a 99cent pillow sham) on the seat/back,leftover from another project,not because it needed it,but because it coordinated with the other project I used the fabric for.It sits in front of the fireplace.(This is an older picture,from before we laid the new floor)

~Hike to Shelter Rock,39 degrees.
~I finished a Skinny Artisan Scarf in LB Moonlight Mohair Safari/unknown Brown acrylic.There was enough Safari left over for a flower pin.
~Mike had a dentist appointment at 9am,to check the fit of his upper plate.It's good!He made an appointment for next week to start his lower cleaning.
~At WMS,I tried on 2 different styles of ladies cargo-type pants.One style were hip-hugger low & the other style fit in the hips,but was about 3" too big around the waist.The curse of "baby got back"!
~I started a shawl called Aphrodite,found at the Naturally Caron website.I'm using Plymouth Encore(75% acrylic/25% wool)in a Dusty Lavender color.I got 3 skeins in a scrap bag from the thrift store a while ago.
~We had chicken bacon cheese sammies for supper.
~I worked on the Butterscotch lap blanket,finishing skein #4.

Hat Sold!!

Hike to Shelter Rock,44 degrees & windy.

~I sold a Kalispell Hat in Salmon Rose/Hickory Stick to Silvia in FL.

~We got groceries at WMS,the newer one on Wyoming.Things are laid out differently,but we found everything we wanted.We took them home & put them away.
~We stopped by the WMS on Eubank to pick up a prescription,then went over to Costco to pick up a few more things.
~We stopped by the sporting goods store for a part for a long gun.
~The final stopped for the day was the Family Thrift Center.Mike wanted some long-sleeve cover shirts & found 3(Eddie Bauer,Woolworth & American Expedition)for about $22.Now,he understands why I come here for EVERYTHING,lol!
~While out,I finished a Solitude hat in RHS Black/Cherry Red & worked on the Durango Hat in RHS Country Rose.
~We filled out our absentee ballots for the upcoming mayor/city council election.
~At my 3pm dental appointment,the dr was very pleased with my progress.They evaluate by numbers & mine went from 6-7's to 2-3's.There were a few 4-5's,which they scraped.I also got a polish.I don't have to come back for 3 months!WooHoo!!
~I worked on the Teal/Gray round ripple lap blanket.
~We had bacon cheeseburger sammies for supper.

~I helped Chuck load bags at the food pantry,then spent 1/2 hour digging weeds from the parking lot cracks.
~At Goodwill,I got a pewter picture frame.
~After lunch,I went to Janelle's house to give her a refresher course on crocheting.She picked it back up quickly.She served me a wonderful pumpkin/applesauce/craisin bread & chamomile tea.I started a Garland of Blossoms scarf in RHS Silver/Turqua.We had a great time!
~I made Mike a bacon cheeseburger for supper.

A Human Right

A liability or a useful tool?

~Susie came by at 8am & we went yard-saling.She brought me back home at 10am so she could keep her nail appointment with Jenny.
~I made a deposit at the bank,then came back home & pulled weeds from the sidewalk in front of the next-door neighbor.Home-owners are supposed to be responsible for the up-keep of the sidewalk space in front of their homes,but the weeds were obviously bothering me more than her,because many were so tall,they were blooming!
~Susie & I went to lunch at Annie's Soup Kitchen.I had Spinach quiche.
~We came back home & had tea & crocheted until about 4pm.We stopped by Susie'shouse & picked up camp chairs.
~We got to the park for Zander's birthday party atounf 4:50pm.I forgot to take a picture of the Stuffie Guy before wrapping it up!Mike came by after work.It was a fun time!

Re-purposed furniture!

~Hike to Shelter Rock,cool & windy.Time to break out the long-sleeve T & winter hat!

~I spent the morning cleaning house:swept/mopped kitchen/utility room,vacuumed all the floors/throw rugs,dusted furniture/fans,did 2 loads of laundry,cleaned both bathrooms.

~I went to WMS around 11am to pick up a prescription.I dropped off 1/2 dozen each Granola Muffins & Pumpkin Craisin Bran muffins for the Napa boys.

~Back home & after lunch,I started a Round Ripple blanket with unknown Teal blue.I then added Grey Heather.I plan to alternate different shades of teal blues/green with the Gray heather.

~We had burger sammies for supper.

Mmmmmm!

Zuchinni Muffin tops-coconut,currants,pecans & spice.These were my favorite of the zuchinni things!

~Raining,no hike!

~Did some banking business,got crackers & cheese at Albertson's,in the rain.Went to the Family Thrift Center,got a cover shirt.Went to Goodwill,got a cover shirt & skein of yarn.Looked for a coat for Mike,didn't find one.

~Still raining!

~Gave away 19 bags at the food pantry(1 given away yesterday).People kept coming,made up/gave away 3 more bags.Finally,had to turn away 4 more people.Folded bulletins.

~Back home,I vacuumed.My small one is not working right,the roller brush only working about 1/2 the time.

~I finished the Stuffie Guy by adding yellow hands & feet.He is too cute!

~Mike & I went to "Date Nite" at the Caliber's.16 people there tonight.Did combat/tactical reloads & retention shooting.

~We went to Caliber's to check the repairs on my Kahr.It is awesome!

~We both donated blood.

~Back home & after lunch,I finished the boa scarf & made a coordinating Sedona hat with Frosty Green top/Mossy band.It's a pretty "earthy" set.

~We got groceries at WMS & Costco,stopping at Lowe's to look at tools.We saw Jenny,Teagan & Megan!

~We just spent the rest of the day being lazy.I worked on a Boa Scarf in Bernat Soft Boucle' Mossy/RHS Frosty Green,made a flower pin in unknown Sea Song blue for the previously-made Roseburg Hat in RHS Mid Brown & made a Modern Flapper Hat in CSS Country Blue/unknown Champagne Tickle(pale yellow-cream).

~My Kahr K40 came back from the manufacturer.They replaced striker,striker spring,recoil spring,trigger bar,trigger bar spring,lubed & test-fired it.They didn't charge me anything!We plan to take it tomorrow & try it out.

~I finished skein #2 on the Butterscotch lap blanket.

~We had bacon cheeseburger sammies for supper.

Self-Reliance equals Self-Confidence

Tips for purchasing your first personal-protection firearm.

~Mike had a dentist appointment before going to work.He has new teeth!
~I stopped at Big Lots for pork rinds,gallon zipper bags & Mitchum before heading to the food pantry to help Chuck load bags.Afterwards,I did yardwork for 1/2 hour.
~Back home,I did another 1/2 hour yard work in the front.
~I vacuumed the floors & put away clean dishes.
~I started a "Stuffy Guy" for a birthday present.I had bought a small,rectangle pillow for 1/2 price at the thrift shop to use instead of loose polyfil.I used Green & made a chain the width of the pillow(23).I then crocheted back & forth in sc until the piece was long enough.I made one for the front & one for the back.I used White for round circle eyes,added Black french knots for the pupils & sewed them on the front.I used Yellow for the stitched-on mouth & eyebrows.I then used Purple to sc the 2 pieces together,placing the pillow inside before closing it up.It is adorable already!I plan to add arms,legs & maybe a mohawk.
~We had chicken bacon cheese sammies for supper & watched 2 episodes of Heroes-Season 2.

Hats Sold!!

Hike to Shelter Rock,55 degrees.Stopped at Smith's for yogurt & pecans.

~I sold 7 special-order Flapper Skullcaps to Barbara in CA:Cherry,Azalea,Black,Cactus,Golden Glow,Hazlenut & Plum.She wanted them to wear on her vacation to Paris in October.

~For the church picnic,I made 2 trays of eggs,an apple craisin salad & S'more brownies.I will also take the Pumpkin Smeer with Allbran crackers & ginger snaps.

~Susie called to say she can barely walk.Her foot,which she broke many years ago,was hurting yesterday.

~Followed Anne from her house to Holiday Park,where the church picnic was to be held.The doors were opened at 11am & we set up chairs under the covered section & had service.Lots of food,lots of fun!The S'more brownies were a huge hit,so I would make them again.

~Back home,I gathered trash/recyclables & washed containers from the picnic.

~I worked on the Butterscotch lap blanket,finishing one 3-oz skein.I tried to find a color in my stash that coordinated with it,but couldn't find one.I decided to just make the blanket solid(will be more of a square than a rectangle)then add a contrasting border.

~I made Mike a bacon cheeseburger sammie for supper.

Mmmmmm!

Zucchini Cocoa Chip loaf

~Susie came by at 8am & we went yard-saling for a while.I got a partial skein of RHS Gemstone for 50cents.
~At 10am,I went to the church for Prayer Shawl Ministry.Only 2 others were there.Anne Malstrom will take 5 lap blankets to the VA & she suggested I let Julie take the other 5 to the Childrens Hospital.I started a lap blanket in vintage Caron Dazzleaire Butterscotch,using the Dc-Sc alternating pattern.
~Back home & after lunch,I picked up the backyard & pulled some weeds.
~I put together a package of hats & drove to the post office to mail them off.
~I spent the rest of the afternoon sorting some scrap yarn balls we found in the church yarn closet,mostly different shades of blue,so I will have to start a lap blanket with those colors.I also finished putting together a Garland of Blossoms scarf with RHS Claret & Lipstick flowers,joined with Black & adding black buttons to a RHS Hot Red Durango hat.
~We had grilled ham & cheese sammies for supper.

Hike to Shelter Rock,cool & muggy.There were 3 marathon metals hung at the Copper trailhead,as if in memorial.

~I decided to use a huge can of pumpkin from the pantry.Here's what it made:Pumpkin Craisin Bran Muffin Tops-24(I did have to go to Albertson's for 1/2 & 1/2 for these),Pumpkin Smeer-about 12oz & Pumpkin Dark Chocolate Chip in 6 mini bundt cakes(so cute!) & 21 muffin tops.I had one of these & it was yummy!

~After lunch,I went to WMS to pick up a prescription.

~I spent the rest of the afternoon finishing the Baby,Baby lap blanket in RHS Lavender,Delft Blue,Frosty Green,Cornmeal & Dusty Rose.It is beautiful!I will be using this pattern again.

~We had chicken bacon cheese sammies for supper & watched the first 2 episodes of Heroes-Season 2.

Hat Sold!!

It rained most of the evening & overnight,so no hike this morning.Also,I won't have to water the roses at the church this afternoon.

~I sold a Roseburg Hat in Straw/Salmon Rose to Christine in IN.

~I met Ms Edla at the church for a Daughters of the King lesson.I had brought my finished lap blankets & showed them to her & Pat.The meeting went well.

~I came home for lunch,then went back up to the church for food pantry.We gave away 17 bags.I worked on the Baby,Baby lap blanket.

~Back home,I swept the floor because the rotary brush on the small vac wasn't turning.

~I did 2 loads of laundry.

~I met Mike at work when he got off at 4:30pm.We drove the Jeep to Caliber's for out first "choir practice",or what we call "date night".The calender said 5pm,but it really started at 5:30pm,so we won't have to be in such a hurry next week.There were 3 others from last weeks Draw Class,along with 10 regulars.I was so nervous,I was ready to hurl!After a while,I calmed down.I learned quite a bit from the others.The instructor said we both did good!

Lap Blanket

Paint Pony lap blanket using alternating Dc & Sc in retro Wintuk Ombre sent to me by Mom from a KY Goodwill store.

~Hike to Coffee Rock.

~We stopped by Napa to drop off Zucchini Bread for the Boys.

~We went to the new WMS on Wyoming for vitamins & a skein of RHS Black yarn.The aisles are wider & the lights are brighter.They had Crispin Pink apples,too!We plan to get our groceries here next week.While out,I worked on a Roseburg Hat in RHS Warm Brown.

~I spent the rest of the afternoon finishing the Stained Glass granny lap blanket & working on the Baby,Baby lap blanket.

~Around 5pm,we went down to Caliber's & picked up Mike's 1911.The addtion of the Crimson Trace & the modifications made to the safety were very professional!I finished the Roseburg hat in RHS Warm Brown.

~We had bacon cheeseburgers for supper.

~I slept badly last night.When Mike came in to wake me up,I just went back to sleep instead of doing my exercises.I felt better after a cup of coffee!

~We went to the UPS store to ship off my Kahr,but were told we had to go to the distribution center,which was down at I-25.We got there 20 minutes before it opened!Once inside,the nice clerk told us it would save $20 if we cut the shipping box down smaller.

~We got groceries at WMS & Costco.

~Susie came by at 12:50pm.We stopped at Shooter's Den for ammo then headed down to Caliber's for some practice.I'm still hitting the target down & right,so I need to learn trigger control.Mike left his 1911 there to get the mods needed to the safety for the Crimson Trace laser.

~We stopped by the Hogan's for Susie to drop off Jenny's keys.Teagan knows how to do a fist bump.She is so cute!

~I spent all the time out & at home putting together Stained Glass granny squares.I ran out of RHS Black with about 10 stitches left to go on the edging!

~We had chicken bacon cheese sammies for supper.

Missed Yesterday

Sept 7:

We hiked to Shelter Rock,heard coyotes.

~After breakfast,Mike & I went to the church food pantry to load 19 bags.We stopped by Susie's & picked up her dogs,Bailey & Maddy.They will be spending the day in the backyard with Jake & Penny.

~I made pasta salad,apple salad,polish sausage kabobs & two 20-count trays of devil eggs.

~Around 11:15am,I went to Susie'sto help prep for the party.I went back home arond 12:15pm.

~Mike & I went back to Susie's& spent the day eating & socializing until about 6pm.We went back home,got Maddie & Bailey,& brought them back to Susie's.

~We were tired!

~When Mike got home from work,we went out to see if the gun stores are open tomorrow.

I sold a Roseburg Hat in Hot Red/Electric Purple to Kathy in TX.

~I attended The Daughters of the King meeting at 9:15am.

~I went over to Susie's after the meeting,giving her a birthday gift(small teapot with strainer,loose tea & prayer book)I help Jenny hang pictures & swept the floor.I left around 1pm.

~I spent the rest of the afternoon working on scrap lap blankets.I plan to finish the ones I have going now before Saturday's Prayer Shawl Ministry meeting.

~We had all planned on going to Molly's Lounge for susie's birthday,but she called about 5:50pm saying it was full of bikers & they didn't feel comfortable.

Scarf Sold!!

Hike to Shelter Rock.When we got back home,we cleand the inside of the windshield of Mike's Bronco.You could barely see out of it!

~I sold a Homespun Skinny Scarf to Patricia in IL.

~I went to the post office to pick up a package(a slip had been left at the house while we were gone)& get eight 2cent stamps.I then went to Albertsons for bananas,crackers,tomatoes & dark cocoa powder.At the Family Thrift Center,I found 4 "concealment" shirts.

~Back home,I made 2 dozen Granola Muffins & swept the floor.

~After lunch,I made the rest of the special-order Flapper Skullcaps:LB CottonEase Plum & Hazlenut.RH Cotton Plus in Black.BTW,the RH is thinner than the LB.

~I spent the rest of the afternoon/evening working on the Scrap Ripple lap blanket.

True Love

Best Defense-We have both learned alot from this show.

~I went to the Family Thrift Center,but was just no into it,so I went up to the church around 10:30am to water the roses.I also dug up some weeds & folded the church bulletins.

~Mike got off work at noon then went up to Susie's house to pick up the extra mag for the Kahr9.

~We learned alot at the draw class,finiding what works,what we need to improve upon,etc.We are now eligible to attend "choir practice" on Thursday nights.

~Mike had a final fitting of his upper plate at 7:30am.

~At 10:45am,I went with Mike to a dr appointment.

~While out,I finished the durango Hat in RHS Hot Red,but I haven't sewn buttons on yet.

~I spent the rest of the morning/early afternoon cleaning up email patterns.

~We left the house at 1pm & headed down to the range for Draw Class,which started at 2pm.We learned alot!My Kahr K40 stopped working(looks like the firing pin went bad-will send it to Kahr to repair),so I used the one at the range for rent(they let me use it free!).The instructors said both Mike & I did well.Class ended at 8pm.

~We went by Susie's house to pick up her Kahr K9 which she is letting me borrow for class.She's awesome!

~Hike to Coffee Rock.
~We got groceries at WMS then went back home to put them away.
~Back out,we checked 2 gun shops before Mike found the holster he needs for draw class.We then went to Costco for a few more groceries.
~Back home,I picked up the back yard while Mike weed wacked.He then mowed the yard while I pulled weeds.
~While out,I finished a Cheyenne Hat in BSC Hot Pink & started a Durango Hat in RHS Hot Red.
~I worked on the Scrap Ripple lap blanket.
~We had bacon cheeseburger sammies for supper.
