Victim? I think not!

Some people don't have the option of running away. They deserve to protect themselves at all times!

~After breakfast, I made a tray of Spinach Devil Eggs for Susan's Tea this afternoon.

~I helped Anne & Mell clean up after coffee hour, snce the 2 people who were supposed to host weren't there. I have agreed to be an usher, along with Jim Harper,on 2nd Sundays.

~I went home, changed my clothes, then headed back up to Anne's for Susan's 8th Sobriety Birthday tea. It was great fun!

~Back to church for 4:30pm Contemporary service(23 people). There was talk of getting a banner for the side of the church, facing the street,to bring in new people.

~I made Mike a Ham/Cheese/Bacon wrap for supper.

~I finished the Bright granny lap blanket. It is so cheerful!

Mmmmmm!

Cocoa Banana muffin tops with Vanilla Cream cheese frosting. Renamed by Mike Mallory "Little Cathy Snack Cakes".

~Susan & I went yardsaling, then had lunch at Just Muffin Around with the Hogan's. The green chile stew was excellent!

~Using a partial skein of retro multicolor yarn I call "Montana Sunset"(blue, rust, purple, raw sienna),I made a 4-round Stained Glass granny square, Turtle "Nellwyn" with a rust body & a Little Octopus.

~I went to music practice at 4:40pm. With only 3 other soft-singing ladies,I sounded too load & off-key to my own ears!

Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. Psalm 47:1

Note to all crocheters:
If you want the pattern for the Diamond Prayer Shawl, please email me at yarncat@hotmail.com .I am unable to copy/paste the pattern here.

~I went early to Albertson's to pick up peanut butter at 10 for $10 for the food pantry. There was no limit,so I got 30 jars(enough for 2 weeks). I also picked up regular baking cocoa(for baking, lol) & special Dark for Mocha.

~Back home,I tried a new recipe for Cranberry Walnut Oatmeal cookies. Of course,I modified it by using Craisins, pecans, splenda & wheat flour. Along with the 1tsp cinnamon the recipe called for,I added a couple dashes each of nutmeg, cloves & ginger. They are crunchy on the outside, slightly chewy on the inside & AWESOME!! It's a big recipe & made bunch of cookies.

~I finished a Wenatchee Hat in Caron Pounder Dark Violet with Cool Pearl beads in dark & light gray.

~When Mike got home, we went to Lowe's to pick up a new flap for the dog door. We had to buy the whole unit instead. Got it home & it was the wrong size. Mike ordered one just like the one we had online.

Old-Timey

Speckled enamelware reminds me of my grandma's houses. This black/white collander was found at Goodwill for 99cents. I LOVE it,rusty spots & all!

~Bulletins, liturgical readings printed. The typewriter isn't scary anymore, though I still only use it when I have to,LOL. Gave away 20 bags at the food pantry & had to turn away 2 people.

~I dropped of Peanut Butter Cup cookies for the Napa Boys.

~Date Nite was interesting. There were 11 of us, so we did weak-hand drills, placing our strong hands in the back of our belts & drawing/shooting/reloading/clearing malfunctions with the weak hand. I did the shoot 2/reload/shoot 2 the quickest(maybe beacuse I'm the youngest & most flexible,LOL),but cannot lock my slide back with one hand no matter which technique I tried. My Kahr K40 has a short barrel(3.5")& a tight recoil spring. I have a hard time doing it even with two hands!

Prayer Shawl

Diamond Prayer Shawl in Caron Pounder Claret.

~I cut up the Ginger Coconut bars I made on Monday. They seem to cut easier when you leave them in the pan a few days. I started a load of laundry.

~I had to wait until after 10:30am to start printing the newsletter. Mike came up around 12:30pm & helped me put them together, then mailed them for me.
~I started a new prayer Shawl in RHS Pounder Country rose(from Jenn) using a scarf pattern called "Lobster Trap" from Shepherd's Crook Crochet. I made a ch-60 and worked the pattern, but with 4 dc at each end for more stability. It's a pretty pattern!
~I made Mike a bacon cheeseburger sammie for supper whil I had chicken corn chowder & crackers.

This also holds true for all places of business that post signs against concealed-carry. I choose to not frequent those kinds of businesses.

~My toenails are "Sangria" red!
~I made a rose pin in Caron Pounder Deep Violet(I call it Tyrian purple) for the LB Homespun Baroque Cheyenne Hat.

~The new ear protectors Mike got us are AWESOME!
~I laid out the Bright Squares(pink, yellow, turqua & lime) & started putting them together with amethyst.

We had about 30 people, more than we had expected. Thing went pretty smooth for the first time, but we did learn a few things we need to change. We had a potluck birthday supper for Janelle. It was a great time!

Artisan Cross

Given to us by Lori B.- Christmas 2009

~I stopped off at Albertson's to pick up a small tub of light cream cheese.

~At Goodwill, I got a long-sleeve cover shirt(army green), 2 bowls(for beating my morning eggs) & a black speckled enamelware colander.

~At the Family Thrift Center, I got a skirt with a black background & tiers of 4 different prints. Large floral, moons & stars, small floral and small abstract squares. I should be able to wear, atleast, 6 different color Tshirts with out. Oh, this makes my official skirt count 30. Is that a collection or an obsession?

~I added the last flower to the Garland of Blossoms scarf & made a Tulsa Hat(granny sqaure band)in Black/Multicolor.

Prayer Shawl

Teal Diamond Prayer Shawl

~I didn't post first thing this morning because I had a dentist appointment at 7:30am to install my permanent cap(in the back, doesn't show). I asked the dentist about the gaps in my front teeth & she built them up(don't remember the name of the process) with a material that matches exactly my tooth color. The 2 teeth on either side of the 2 upper big teeth have always looked like baby teeth, much smaller than the others. I didn't think much about them until I got a public job & it made me self-conscious about smiling. Now,I look like a grown-up! I love Dr.Cynthia!!

~Back home, I made Cocoa Banana cup cakes, which I plan to frost with vanilla cream-cheese icing for a birthday party. I also swept/vacuumed & did a load of laundry.

~I finished a Sedona Hat in RHS Camouflage, adding a rose pin in Blaze orange wool. I also made Turtle "Stetson" in Camouflage/Black & a Stained Glass granny square in Camouflage.

~I put most of a Garland of Blossoms scarf together in Black with various colors of flowers.

NM Senate: Guns & Beer Do Mix(stupid headline)

February 13,2010 article from the Albuquerque Journal. My thoughts are in ( )'s.

"The guy in the next booth could be packing if a bill approved by the Senate becomes law(bad guys are already packing). The vote was 27-15 on Friday to allowed concealed carry licensees to take their handguns into restaurants that serve beer & wine(Chili's, Papa Felipe's, Sadie's,Applebee's,etc). It would remain illegal to take guns into bars or into restaurants with full liquor licenses, under the proposal(Atomic Cantina, Dragonhorn Tavern, Horse & Angel, etc). And beer-&-wine restaurants could opt out, by posting signs saying guns are prohibited(as does Tuesday Morning & Costco-welcoming the bad guys to rob them). Although it is illegal for someone carrying a gun to be intoxicated(as it is with driving a car), it's not completely clear that it's illegal for that person to consume alcohol(with all that you have to go through to get a CCL,it would be stupid to jeopardize it). More than 17,000 New Mexicans have been issued CCL's since 2004(with more every week being added)."

~Printed bulletin, liturgical readings, PoP's. Fr Jim & I both worked on sending the 2009 Parochial Report online. We now have 6 votes for bishop! Gave away 16 bags at the food pantry.

~Dropped off Bahama Mama Bars at Napa. Five people were laid off from the store, luckily not Mike.

~Fr im called me at home. I put a letter in the outgoing mail & forgot to put an address on it!Duh!! He said he would fix it for me.

~We arrived later than usual, but still on time for Date Nite. We heard from our Santa Fe "insider" that the bill to allowed concealed carry permit holders to to carry into restaurants that serve beer & win passed & is expected to be signed by the Governor in July. Both Mike & I did really well. The boys devoured my Bahama Mama Bars!

Be consistent

There is an argument among those who feel the 2nd Amendment doesn't apply to individuals with weapons that weren't around in 1776. These same people would state that the 1st Amendment does apply to media that wasn't around in 1776. All I ask is that there be consistency.

~I stopped at Lowes for an OTT light bulb, but they didn't have any!

~I went early to Smith's to shop for the church food pantry. Julie, the lady who normallydoes the shopping,is getting a knee replaced. Mycart was so full! I also picked up the few things I get there every other week.

Another layer of protection

Fairbairn Sykes Hide Away Knife-The idea of this knife is the loop fits around the fingers so it can't be taken away from you. When it is sheathed, it also is not obvious as a knife, looks more like a carabiner. A perfect addition to my "arsenal".
