Prayer Shawl

Diamond Prayer Shawl in Desert Sand

~We had Cleanup Day at the church. There were 13 of us & we picked up trash, trimmed bushes/trees, pulled weeds, aerated under the trees & sprayed for weeds. We were there from 9am-11:30am. I'm tired!

~Back home, I did a load of laundry, made a kid-size Sedona Hat in Pale yellow with strands of Oranges confetti & a Boa Scarf in LB Fancy Fur Brilliant Blue/CSS Cypress.

~We had bacon cheeseburger wraps for supper & watched Zombieland. It was awesome!!

Bacon & tray!

I use this Nordic Ware microwave tray to cook the bacon below. I line it with a paper towel, put one layer of bacon on the put another paper towel over the bacon. Soaks up the grease & keeps it from splattering.
We were eating the Walmart brand of bacon, but I had a coupon & tried this Farmland brand. It is the smokiest by far! I cook up the whole package at one time using the tray above & store it in the fridge. We use it more like a condiment, as a flavoring for omelets & wraps.

~I finished the RHS Aruba Sea Comforting Shawl while watching news & drinking mocha this morning. I do have to weave in 4 ends, but it turned out very pretty! After being blessed, it will go to Gladys, via St. Mary's Prayer Shawl Ministry. She is graduating from nursing school May 13th & a celebration will be held for her.

~Mike drove me to work & finished what he could on the a/c. Now just to wait for the plumber to come look at the water lines. I was a little behind on printing bulletins, but did get them done. I also printed out more pamphlet labels. We gave out 11 bags at the food pantry. One of the regular ladies gave me Whopper eggs!

~I came home to a HUGE box from Karen: yarn, wall hangings, note cards, socks & a skirt. WooHoo!!

~Date Nite: After warm up, we did all weak-hand drills, which included drawing from the holster, reloading, failure drills, but, thankfully, no clearing of malfunctions. I did practice, during the break, clearing of Class-3 malfunction(double feed) & found a way that works for me. My Kahr is 3.75" & i cannot lock back the slide with one hand, so I hook the bottom of the magazine on my shoe & strip it out while holding the mag-release button. It ain't pretty or particularly fast, but it gets the job done.

Good Friday

He was pierced for our transgressions, and crushed for our sins,

The punishment that brought us peace was upon him,

And by his wounds, by His wounds we are healed.

We are healed by Your sacrifice, and the life that You gave.

We are healed for You payed the price, by Your grace we are saved, we are saved.

What can wash away my sin?

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

~I went to to the Family Thrift Center (shirt & bowl) & Goodwill (shoes) before heading up to the church for Seven Last Words service. Jean, Sharon & I wore black cassocks & rotated the readings. The 3-hour service really makes you think.

~I made a few Stained Glass granny squares.

~We had bacon cheeseburger wraps for supper.

~At 6:30p.m., we went back to the church so Mike could help Fr. Jim move all the furniture back into his office. The floor seems to be dry!

Thursday, April 21, 2011

As they make music they will sing,“All my fountains are in you.” Psalm 87:7

Cedar Crest, NM-Sandia Mountains

~Mike drove me to work & started on the church AC/SC. He turned on water & saw a leak on the roof, which he turned off. But, water came out of the ceiling through the vents/sprinkler heads & skylight in Fr. Jim's office right over his desk! Even after turning the water off, it continued to leak for about 1/2 an hour. We quickly moved everything around to avoid the water. Mike used a shop vac for about 4 hours, to soak up all the water, opened the door & had 2 fans blowing. It was later determined that one of the water pipes between the ceiling & roof had burst over the winter & nobody knew due to the fact that it wasn't seen! A plumber will have to be called in to see what the problem is.

~At the office, I got bulletins completed for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday Seven Last Words & mass & Easter Sunday, both services. I also typed up cards for a baptism & printed out a rough draft of the May newsletter. After my work day was over at 3pm, with Mike still doing work, Fr. Jim & I finished stuffing the last of the eggs for the hunt on Sunday. I am wore out!

~Date Nite: After warmups, we did basic drills(failure drills, speed & tactical reloads, setup & clearing of malfunctions) with one person acting as "student" with an "instructor" behind them. It was very helpful, as the main purpose was to slow down & get the sequence right. At the end, we did failure drills at 3 & 5 yards. Randy let me know how proud he is with me. Mike had his fastest time ever of first-shot of 1.1 seconds!

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

Mmmmmm!

Granola Muffins-I now use 3 mashed bananas. Way better!!

~Mike decided to go in to work to make up for not working next Sunday.

~At the office, I filed/mailed bills, enjoyed fellowship, printed/folded/stapled Tenebrae bulletins. After lunch, Fr. Jim & I went over rules for becoming a Lay Eucharistic Minister. I should be licensed in 4-6 weeks. I worked on Sunday bulletins. Didn't get any eggs stuffed!

~Since Mike has to close, I took him a pb/ab wrap & Diet Dr. pepper.

~I swept the floors & unloaded the dish washer.

~I worked on the Bon Bon granny lap blanket, making squares with RHS Turqua.

Hat Sold!!

Roseburg hat in Midnight/Chilled Wine sold to Brenda in MI

~Mike rode his bicycle to work to save on gas money. Napa is 1.2 miles from the house, down hill, so we'll see how he does coming back, up hill, tonight!

~Fr. Jim had told me he was spending the day down at the Bosque Center, but came in at 9am. He did leave later for an afternoon service. I worked on bulletins & typed up Mikes Mutual Ministry Review answers. Stuffed eggs, & printed out stuff for the Vestry meeting tonight.

~Back home, I made a batch of Double peanut Butter Cup cookies. I used a mix I picked up at Big Lots for $1, adding chopped up pb cups to the tops. They took longer to bake than the recipe called for but they are yummy!

~It took Mike 13 minutes to ride the bike home. His legs were tired, but he felt energized! I made him a chicken bacon cheese wrap for supper. I had ham & cheese.

~We attended the Vestry meeting.

Hot Dog!

This is another item we started eating during our low-carb days, mainly because it was the lowest carb(1 gram) hot dog that could be eaten cold or hot. We wrap these in either Santa Fe Tortilla Company's Carb Chopper or Flat Out Light Original wraps with a slice of American cheese & grilled them in a skillet with non-stick spray. Dipped in classic yellow mustard, they make a great, quick supper! Mike also takes one in his lunch every day.

~I stopped off at Big Lots(juice for Coffee Hour) before heading up to the church to load bags at the Food Pantry. I also sorted mail & put the palms leftover from Sunday in the Sacristy for the Altar Guild to burn next year for Ash Wednesday.

~I picked up 2 bottles of Torani's sugar-free styrup, Raspberry & Caramel, at Lomas Albertsons.

~At Goodwill, I found 2 tank top, one in Turquoise & one in mottled lavender with lace, beads & sequins around the neck.

~I attended music practice but was off-key due to my cold.

~We had pb/ab wraps for supper.

Friday, April 15, 2011

He has founded his city on the holy mountain. Psalm 87:1

Shiprock, New Mexico

~We had bacon cheeseburger wraps for supper.

Thursday, April 14, 2011

Mmmmmm!

Craisin Sugar Cookies-they look like faces!

~If I didn't have bulletins to do,I would stay home. I feel like crap. But, I did go to the office & did all the Palm Sunday bulletins as well as edits on Tenebrae & stuffing Easter eggs. I did a little more work on the St. Elizabeth Guild guide.

~Date Nite: After warmups, Randy talked about his CCW Intructor renewal course he took, along with instructors for police departments. He said that our group was, by far, better trained than any he saw. We do more weak-hand drills(shooting, reloads, malfunction-clearing) & drawing from the holsters than other instructors. We are very lucky to get the kind of training we do. We did failure drills(2 to the body, 1 to the head), using smaller targets to simulate further distances. After the break, we did timed shooting at different distances with reloads. I got a failure drill at the 7-yd line under 2 seconds, a new record for me! Also 2 reloads under 3 seconds, which is also good for me.

Apple Butter

R.W. Knudsen Organic apple Butter-I have always preferred apple butter over any jelly/jam/preserves on peanut butter. This apple butter is nothing but apples & apple juice, no added sugar. It tastes like my grandmas! It is also good on corn bread. I can only find it at the Albertsons on Jaun Tabo/Candelaria in the health food section.

Emergencies

A tool like any other

After rolling them into balls & flattening the dough, I added to the tops: peanut butter cups(my fav!), mini rainbow Kisses, caramel bits & craisins. I have one Airbake sheet & 2 dark sheets.
