Happy Halloween!

Traditional Jack-Janelle read in a magazine about cutting the bottom off the pumpkin,instead of the top.It makes a bigger hole,so easier to clean out.It also sits flat on a large dinner plate.It worked really well!

~Susan & I have gone back to our fall yardsaling start time of 9am.I found some pretty flower lace,a coffee mug,small easel & little tart tins.We had lunch at a family style restaurant,which I forget the name.I had potato soup & ham/green chile quiche. We stopped at 2 different gun shops looking for .45 ammo.

~I spent the rest of the afternoon putting the finishing touches on my Halloween costume for the Mallory's haunted house.I am going as a fantasy assassin.I will post pictures!

~Susan & Teagan came by at 4:45pm.We all went to the Mallory's for the Haunted House.My "Rose Muerta-Warrior Princess" outfit was a big hit.The evening was so fun.Mike enjoyed sitting by the bonfire with Susan,handing out candy.We left at 8:45pm.

Cinnamon Pecan Coffee Cake

Cinnamon Pecan Coffee Cake-for a crowd

Ingredients:
1(18 1/4 oz)package yellow cake mix(I used a reduced-sugar version)
1 c sour cream
4 eggs
2/3 c vegetable oil
1 c packed light brown sugar(I used 1/2 c each brown sugar & baking Splenda)
2 Tbsp ground cinnamon
1/2 c chopped pecans

1.Heat oven to 350 degrees F.Grease 13x9x2" baking pan.
2.In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, sour cream, eggs, and oil; beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until batter is thick and well blended.
3.Spread 1/2 the batter into the prepared pan.
4.Combine the brown sugar, cinnamom & pecans; sprinkle over batter.
5.Carefully spread remaining batter on top; bake for 30-40 minutes or until toothpick tests done.
6.Cool on wire rack for 10 minutes.

I let this cake sit,covered,at room temperature overnight.I got rave reviews from everyone who trued it.

*Note;You may want to try different fillings,maybe jam,for a totally different cake.



Hat Sold!!

I sold a Durango Hat in Cape Cod Blue to Holly in CT.

~I did 3 loads of laundry,swept/mopped the kitchen/utility rooms floors & dusted the living room furniture.
~I made another B.O.B.,this time with 1 more round to the body & a slightly bigger google eye.They are both equally cute!
~After lunch, I fueled my jeep, got fake barbed wire & a few bags of candy at Dollar Tree & found 4 bags of Sugar-Free Dove dark chocolate mint at Big Lots.I had one on the way back home.To die for!It melts in your mouth like butter!!
~I finished the second half of the Bernat Boucle' Pale Butter boa scarf by adding an unknown boucle' in butter/paprika.
~I worked on granny squares,almost being done with a Checkerboard lap blanket.
~Around 6:30pm,Mike & I went to the Mallory's for Pumkin Carving.I took my Dirty Eice,Pumpkin Sausage Soup & Ginger Cakes.The soup was a hit!I carved my pumpkin in the traditional style(post on tomorrows blog).

Lap Blanket

Butterscotch lap blanket.This is the easiest pattern ever,just alternating rows of dc & sc.The yarn does all the work!Donated to the VA hospital.

~At work,printed out bulletins,lectionary readings and made a special template for All Saints' Day names.Gave out 22 bags at the food pantry.

~It started snowing when I left work at 2pm.I dropped off a dozen Dump Brownies and a UT can cozy for Jason's birthday.

~At home,I made a batch of dirty rice & vacuumed.

~Date Nite was interesting.We shot with out eyes closed,the lesson being that once you find your sights,the only thing that moves is your finger.It also helped everybody to slow down & make the shots count.

~We went to Monte's cigar Lounge for Jason's birthday,staying about an hour.I had my first Killian Red & it was tasty.Jason hugged me!I love them Napa Boys!!

Mmmmmm!

Cinnamon Pecan Coffee Cake-this recipe uses a cake mix,then add your favorite ingredients.

~It snowed several times today!

~Busy,busy day!Printing out 180 copies of a newsletter,10 pages each,with 2 pages having to be uncollated,printed on the back & recollated.But,I didn't kill any trees!

~We had chicken bacon cheese sammies for supper.

~I made Pumpkin Sausage soup for the pumpkin carving on Friday.

Shooting for Fun!

Shooting is one of the few sports that doesn't discriminate against gender,age or physical ability.It can be enjoyed by the whole family!
~It was way too cold for hiking this morning.
~Work went great.I was able to do most everything by myself.Got my first paycheck.WooHoo!!
~The Surf & Sand lap blanket smells fresh.I can now use the rest of it!
~We had bacon cheeseburger sammies for supper.
~I started a new lap blanket using a pattern from Bernat called "Lacey".I'm using a cream color from the stash Karen sent me.It is a pretty & easy pattern.

Hats Sold!

I drove Mike to work since he might get his Bronco back today from the shop.

~I sold 3 Candy Corn Hats(adult,youth & infant)to the Bush's in OH.

~I stopped at Big Lots.They had juice boxes 1/2 price,so I picked up some for the nursery.I also found microwavable soup and Canadian Maple tea.

~I helped Chuck load 16 bags.Then,Fred helped me call in payroll,which is done every other Monday.I'll be getting my first check tomorrow!Haven't had one with my name on it since 1988!!

~I stopped at both thrift stores & got a cover shirt,small pine-needle basket(may be native american),tight black shirt for my costume.

~At Dollar Tree,I found plastic barb wire.Don't know how,but it will be wrapped on me or my machete for Halloween!

~I got groceries at the newer WSH on Wyoming.I had to back track several times to find everything. I won't go there again.

~Back home,after putting away groceries,I made Ginger Coconut Candy Bars,everybody's favorite!

~I made a birthday Can Cozy in Texas Longhorn colors,LB Vannas Choice Rust & Caron Natura Off White.

~We had chicken bacon cheese sammies for supper.

~I worked on scrap granny squares.

Hike to Shelter Rock.Penny lost her red,blinky light on the way back to the truck.We stopped at Smith's for flavored waters,yogurt & coffee filters.

~I dropped Banola Cakes off at Napa & picked up 2 different style of safety glasses for my Halloween costume.I haven't decided yet which ones to wear.I stopped back by the house & picked up a jacket.

~I had a nice conversation with Ms Jeannine(Fr Jim's wife).She is a big help to me in proof-reading the bulletins.The parking lot is only half done because the blacktop machine broke down on Friday.

~Back home,I gathered trash/recyclables, picked up the backyard(Jake wouldn't bring back the squeaky toy even once!),vacuumed the floors & did 2 loads of laundry.I also washed the Surf & Sand lap blanket.I think I can still smell the musty,but it just may be an expected smell,since I knew what it smelled like before.

~I made a BOB from Monsters vs Aliens in an unknown sparkly Blue from the 1970's.I asked Mike when he got home "What is this",holding up BOB.He said "BOB!",so I did a good job,I guess!

~We had bacon cheeseburger sammies for supper.

~I made a Sedona Hat in Wintuk Teal/RHS Black Fleck & a few Garland of Blossoms flowers in Teal & Sparkly Turquoise.

Bottle Cozy sold!

~I sold a Bottle Cozy in Berries/Sweet William to Vicky in TX.

~Susan & I went yard-saling.I found a 50cent book.We had lunch at Just Muffin Around.

~I tried on my River/Alice combo Halloween costume.It's pretty cool!

~Susan,Lori & I drove together to Julie & Scott's wedding.Before the reception,we went to a hardware store for a few things.It was all fun,but way too late a night for me,getting home at 10pm.

Mmmmmm!

Oatmeal cookies with semi-sweet chocolate & butterscotch chips.These seem to be a universal favorite among Napa Boys!

~Mike did ride the bike to work this morning.Good thing Napa is only 1 mile away!

~I swept & mopped,but then just spent the rest of the day crocheting.I made a Sedona Hat in RHS Hot Red/unknown red & tan tweed.I also made one half of a Boa scarf in Bernat Boucle' Palest Yellow.

~We had chicken bacon cheese sammies for supper.

~I finished the Summer Sky lap blanket,adding warm tan to both ends & adding an edging in the same color.It is now known as "Surf & Sand".

~I dropped a plate of cookies off for the Napa Boys.Mike needs work done on the truck,so I will be going back tonight to pick him up and possibly taking him to work until it's done,unless he wants to ride the motorcycle.
~Date Nite-Need to learn consistancy in shooting.I will do really good,then do crappy.

Start of Week 2 of work.Everything was much easier,knowing where different things are to put together the bulletin.Learned some new things about the printer & made a tiny change to the newsletter that was very well received.I took off at 1pm,since I have to go back tonight for a 2-hour meeting.Ms Lucy,from the Prayer Shawl Ministry, brought me a bag of yarn balls!
~Mike & I went to Best Buy to pick up a computer keyboard for the office.I type with 2 fingers/looking at the keyboard & the one at the office has the "L" worn off the key.We took it up to the church & Mike hooked it up.We made it a "donation".Mike also checked my machine for anti-virus(it had none) & will install some new anti-virus software on Fr Jim's computer.
~I did a load of laundry & went through the bag of yarn balls.I used some for granny squares & rolled some into balls for other projects.
~We had chicken bacon cheese sammies for supper.I tried the "Banola Cakes" I made on Monday.They are yummy!

Hats Sold!!

I sold 2 hats to B in MN-Sedona in chunky Licorice/Chocolate & Flapper in Mid Brown/Marble.

~Mike works the 9:30am-6pm shift today,so he got to lounge around a bit before heading off to work.

~At Big Lots, I got laundry soap,a pumice stone, pomegranate rooibus tea & zipper bags.

~I helped Chuck load 20 bags at the food pantry.The work on repaving the parking lot has started.

~I dropped mail off at the post office.

~I stopped at Target for bras.

~I got groceries at WMS.

~Back home & after lunch,I used the rest of Ms Helen's bananas on Chocolate Banana White Chip mini-bundts & 24 Granola Cakes(used more banana,oats & added pecans,so they are "cakier".I also mopped the kitchen floor,which is a chore.It really needs to be re-sealed.

~I worked on the Dusty Plum Aphrodite shawl.I'm now on the edging,which may have to be modified,if I run out of yarn.

~We had bacon cheeseburger sammies for supper.

~Fr. Jim made an announcement in church about me being the new office administrator.Susan said I got so red!I found 2 mistakes in the bulletin.I vow to do better!I gave Ms Helen her banana loaf.She was thrilled!
~After church,I went to Susan's to pick up chairs & a fire bowl.I took them to Anne's house.The dinner she's hosting is Friday.
~Back home,I gathered recyclable/trash & picked up the back yard.I made a grocery list & cooked a pound of bacon.
~I made a Sedona Hat in LB WoolEase Pines/TLC CottonPlus Black/RHS Black.It is sized up(23"-24") to fit a man.Mike tried it on for me & said he would wear it.I also worked on the Patriotic round ripple lap blanket.I'm on the last round of Royal Blue hdc edging.
~We had chicken bacon cheese sammies for supper.

Kitty Sold!!

I sold a Kitty to Ryan in IL & a lot of red wool yarn to Terri in MA.

~Susan came by at 8am.We spent all morning yard-saling.I got some soft & thick towels,a bell, a pair of gloves for the Wooly Tree & a hair clip.We had lunch at Monica's Cafe.We went next door to Big Lots & found more caramel syrup.Final stop at Staples for Tyvec envelopes.

~Made a Cheyenne Hat, holding together one strand CSS Dark Country Blue & one strand unknown fuzzy light denim heather sport yarn,adding a rose pin in Dark Country Blue.I made a few flowers with CSS scraps.

~I made Mike a bacon cheeseburger sammie for supper.

Sold,sold,sold!!!

Over the past 2 days, I have sold 8 hats & 3 scarves to 3 different people!This is a Durango Hat in Rapture Rose,the prettiest of the bunch.

~I went to Albertson's for All Bran crachers,but all they had was the nasty herb variety.I noticed bagels on sale & bought 3 bags for Anne(Sunday is her Coffee Hour & this is what she usually brings).

~I dropped off 4 package at the post office.

~The Family Thrift Center was having their 50% off Halloween sale.I got a cover shirt,a tote bag,a skirt, a 12-count tiny bundt cake tin & a bag of picture frames.

~I went up to the church to water the trees.

~Yesterday,Ms Helen Manderville brought by 2 bags of bananas for Food Pantry.Julia said they were too ripe,so I brought them home.I tried a new recipe called Banana Banana Bread.The recipe made 6 small bundt cakes & a small loaf I made in a disposable tin.I haven't tasted it yet.I then tried Banana Oatmeal Cookies,making them like I do my Granola Muffins.The recipe was for cookies,which said ungreased cookie sheet,so I didn't grease the muffin tin.BIG mistake!The chopped dates stuck to the pan,so I now have a huge batch of cookie chunks!!Any suggestions are welcomed.

~I made a Boa Scarf in eyelash/fur yarn in Harvest Moon(black,yellow,brown & rust) & RHS & CSS Black yarn.

I got up at 4:30am & was able to work on the Summer Sky lap blanket.I finished the second skein of yarn.I need to measure it to see how much more I need to add at each end.Maybe a tan color.

~I was at the office by myself most of the morning.Janet came in to do records,but a book she needed was locked up.All the food pantry bags were given away by 1:15pm & 2 people were turned away.I did quite a few small changes on bulletins,newsletter & address labels.

~After work,I dropped off cookies for the Napa boys.One of them said "We love you!".
~Date Nite was AWESOME!We both learned alot & had fun.We did our first brass-collecting for reloading at home.

~At home,I made a rose pin in wool Sterling Silver to pin on the LB Homespun Grape(which I prefer to call Regal Purple).

Hat Sold!!

I sold a Cheyenne Hat in Taupe Twists/Bone to Ashley in LA.

~I stopped by Big Lots & found 3 different flavors of Twinings Black Tea:Cinnamon Apple Breakfast,Indian Spiced Chai & Black Currant.

~I made up a bag of groceries from the food pantry as soon as I got to the church.Fr Jim had called me to say a man was waiting.

~I had a meeting with Fr Jim & Fred to discuss the job & compensation.

~I helped Chuck load the rest of the food bags.

~I spent about an hour looking at the programs on the computer,to see what was used.I was glad to see there were alot of templates that I can just insert new info into.

~I got groceries at WMS.

~Back home,I used a new recipe for Ginger Cookies,but didn't feel like waiting until the chilled for 2 hours.I used my 24-count mini muffin tin.The first batch were too brown,so I threw them out.The second batch was better.I also used my 12-count tart pan to make mini cakes.They are cute! They are now known as "Ginger Cakes".

~I spent quite a bit of time trying to decide what to put on my resume,which the church needs for hiring purposes.

~We had chicken bacon cheese sammies for supper.

~I made a Little Octopus in RHS Mexicana.

Lap Blanket

~Mike loaded into my Jeep the 2 craft tables,a cushion folding chair & a set of 4 tray tables for Anne to use for a rehersal dinner she is hosting.

~The Cinnamon Pecan coffee cake was a huge hit at Coffee Hour.Afterwards,I took the furniture to Anne's house.

~I had a meeting with Father Jim to discuss the receptionist job.It is much more involved than I had thought,but I agreed to a probationary period.I start next Tuesday!

~Back home,I gathered trash/recyclables,vacuumed & did 2 loads of laundry.

Girls don't cry...

~Mike didn't have to go to work until 8:20am.Something about hours paid for vacation.

~Susie & I went yard-saling until 10am.I then had Prayer Shawl Ministry,dropping off 2 lap blankets & working on the Patriotic round ripple.Ann Malstrom & Lucy Day were there,too.Susie & I had lunch at Just Miffin Around.

~After vacuuming the floors,I made the Ripple Cinnamon Bun coffee cake.O added 1/2c chopped pecans.It smells really good!

~I spent the rest of the afternoon making Garland of Blossom scarf flowers,pulling colors from the Red/Orange bag.I also made a pair of Mitts in an unknown acrylic/wool/mohair-blend yarn in Toasted Pumpkin.

~We had chicken bacon cheese sammies for supper.We both tried a little piece of the coffee cake.It is nummy!

Mike checked into equipment to reload our own ammo.By his calculations,with as much as we shoot,the equipment would pay for itself in 6 weeks!
~I called Ms Mary Helen about our Coffee Hour on sunday.I have decided to make Ripple Cinnamon Bun coffee cake.It uses a yellow cake mix(reduced sugar),so it should be interesting!
~I had a meeting with Ms Edla.We went over the remaining parts of my Daughters of the King training.The Brothers were at the church sanding/varnishing outside doors.
~After lunch,I started sorting yarn from a bag given to me.I put some wool I knew I wouldn't use up on Ebay.I rolled some other into balls & made a Cheyenne Hat in one strand each CSS Black/unknown brushed baby Dove Gray,adding a rose pin in Black.It is thick warm & beautiful!I need to make more of this style.
~We had bacon cheeseburger sammies for supper.

Can Cozy Sold!

Mike goes back to work today.It was a fun vacation!

~I sold a Can Cozy in Groovy to Miranda in CA.
~I went to the thrift stores at 9am.At the Family Thrift Center I tried on 2 pair of pants(one too big,one too small) & 2 cover shirt(one ladies,one boys-both fit).At Goodwill,I got a silver-tone picture frame.
~After lunch,I went up to the church to dig weds from the parking lot.Chuck let me know that we got enough specila-fund pledges to repave the parking lot.Woohoo!Now,I will concentrate on making the grounds around the front of the church look better.
~I also learned the receptionist was let go.I told Fr. Jim that,though I had no formal experience,I have over 10 years of computer experience,can answer phones,type & anything else "officey" that needs to be done.He said he would discuss it with the vestry.
~We gave away 20 food bags in 20 minutes & had to turn one person away.
~Back home,I vacuumed & dusted.
~I made the last of the special-order Candy Corn hats,this one in infant size.I also worked on the Summer Sky lap blanket.
~At "Date Nite",I was in the middle of wram-ups,when the screw tht holds the magazine realease button broke.Luckily,Tony,the gun-smith,had an extra one in the back.He replaced it for me for free.I promised him baked goods in payment,LOL.The rest of the class went well.We did timed drills of most of the techniques we have learned,so far.I made a 45 out of 50 score.I found out several things I need to work on.

~Mike had a dentist appointment at 7:30am.He got all his lower teeth cleaned.He will go back in 6 weeks for a re-evaluation.We went to WMS to pick up a precription for antimicrobial rinse.

~While out,I finished the Petal Durango Hat & started a Cheyenne Hat in LB Homespun Grape.

~Back home,Mike did some more work on the back bath.

~I spent the afternoon working on the Aphrodite shawl.I also made 2 flower pins.

Crochet Sold!

Hike to Coffee Rock.
~To Lynn in NC,I sold a Boyfriend Hat in Espresso/Dark Olive & a pairof Pulse Warmers in Oxford Gray.
~To Daniel in KS,I sold a Cheyenne Hat in Homespun Edwardian/Claret & a Can Cozy in Neopolitan.
~Mike did more sanding & spackling to the bathroom.
~We stopped off at the post office to mail the packages before heading out for groceries at WMS,Sam's Club & Costco.
~After putting groeries away,we had an early lunch,then headed to the range to test the Kahr K9(on target!) & to see why Susies .22 wasn't working right.There was one brand of ammo that wouldn't work,but Mike just thinks it needs to be shot more.
~While out,I finished a Roseburg Hat in RHS Black & started a Durango Hat in Bernat Cashmere Natural Blends Petal.
~Back home,I made a double batch of Oatmeal Butterscoth/Chocolate Chip cookies,adding extra cinnamon.Mike declared them delish!
~I did 2 loads of laundry.Mike helped fold!
~I started a new lap blanket with a pattern from Annie's Crochet Quilt Afghan Club simply called "Baby's Blanket".After 2 rows,I wasn't happy with the way it was looking,so I modified the pattern it is 10 dc,Shell(2 dc,ch 1,2 dc),10 dc.I like it much better.I'm using a medium Blue color sent to me by my sister,Karen.
~We had Chicken Bacon cheese sammies for supper.

~After breakfast,we gathered up trash/recyclables.

~Mike started early on repairing the wall in the back bathroom.He went to Lowe's for drywall & spent the morning making it fit.

~I stopped by Big Lots & found a few things on our regular grocery list.The sugar-free Davinci's syrup section was sparse,but I did get another Caramel!

~I helped Chuck load 12 bags at the food pantry,dropped off apple juice boxesat the nursery & picked up several bags of leaves.

~After lunch,we went to trade in several guns we didn't need for one we did.It is a "family",for either of us to use if we need to.I worked on the Roseburg Hat in Black.

~I made a special-order Candy Corn Hat in Youth size(20").I used the last of the RHS Bright Yellow I had,so will have to pick up a skein tomorrow at WMS.

~I started a new Patriotic Round Ripple lap blanket,the center in Red.

~We had bacon cheeseburger sammies for supper.

~Worked some more on the PRR.

~After breakfast,I made an Apple Craisin Pecan salad to take to Lori's this afternoon.
~Mike & I went to church,stayed a little while for coffee hour,then came home to change clothes & load up the jeep for shooting.Susie & us two rode out to the west mesa together.Anne,Wyatt, Beryl & Alex met us out there.It was windy,but fun!
~After shooting,we went to Lori's for the cookout.Anne's Mike had brought bison,elk & deer meat & we made our own kabobs.I played cornholio!It was a fun day!

Hat Sold!!

Hike to Coffee Rock.When we left the house,we could see the whitemoon through the clouds.When we got up to the foothills,it was cloudier.About half-way through the hike,the moonwas yellow.When we stopped for coffee,the moon was a big orange disc in the sky.On the way back to the truck,we watched the mountains to the west swallow the moon.God is AWESOME!

~I sold a Boyfriend Hat in Midnite/Stone to Jenifer in FL.
~I attended a Daughters of the King meeting at 9:30am.There was a ceremony to welcome me & another lady into the training class.
~Around 11:30am,Mike & I went by & picked up Susie.We went to the gun show,looking around until 3pm.We we then went to 2 gun stores before Susie found the .22 plinking pistol she wanted.We had early supper at IHoP.It was a fun day!
~I made Dirty Rice for tomorrows party at Lori's.It's always better if it sits over night.

Funky!

Scrap Tweed Bag made with one strand DK yarn in Wine & worsted scraps.A combo of my Scrap Tweed Tassel Hat & Tweed Feed Bag patterns.

~Mike is working on the 3/4 bath again this morning.He has the venting fan in the shower installed.He is now at Lowe's picking up something else.I'm so glad he is handy!

~I did 2 loads of laundry.

~Mike finished installing the venting fan in the ceiling of the back bathroom.He vacuumed up all the mess.He will run wires & repair the hole in the wall after the weekend.

~After lunch,we got the emissions tested on the Bronco.It passed & is good for 2 years.

~We then went to Sam's Club(free pass) to check out their inventory & prices.There were a few things we get at Costco that Sam's didn't have,but alot of what we do get seems to be cheaper at Sam's.We did pick up mixed nuts & whole grain chips.

~We stopped at WMS for chicken.It was so busy!

~I have a special order for Candy Corn Hats in Adult,Youth & Infant sizes.I completed the Adult size.It has been a while since I made this project,forgot how fun it is!

~I finished the Toasted Almond edging on the Butterscotch lap blanket.

~We had chicken bacon cheese sammies for supper.We both tried the Dump Brownies I made on Tuesday(with the gingersnap crust).They are DELISH!

~I worked on scrap granny squars.

Mmmmmm!

~Too windy to hike.

~Mike started early on the installation of the venting fan in the back 3/4 bath.He ended up cutting out a huge section of wall to run new wiring.This house was built in 1958,so drywall,wire mesh,plaster then paint.Lots of dust!

~I went up to the church around 11:45am to waterthe trees.I also dug up a few weeds.We handed out 12 bags at the food pantry.I worked on the Garland of Blossoms scarf in Turqua/Light Gray.

~We had a leisurely afternoon.I started the edging on the Butterscotch lap blanket,using HL ILTY in Toasted Almond.

~We had bacon cheeseburger sammies for supper.

~Date Nite-learned shooting on the move,going forwards,backwards & side-to-side with a combat reload.It was AWESOME!
