~I felt & sounded better once I got to work. I collated/stapled Annual Meeting Reports, started collating the newletter, until Fr Jim noticed the front page said January instead of February. I reprinted 175 copies of pages 1-2. Janet & Ms Evelyn came at 11am to help with the newsletter. We were done by 12:20pm. I printed out 90 copies of the 9:30am combined mass bulletins/liturgical readings & Prayers of the People. I stamped end-of-year financial reports for mailing & letters from Fr. Jim. Victims?

I think not! One of the guys at our "Date Nite" & declared "most improved" is in his 80's & stiff-legged. I pity the fool who messes with him!

Work went well. I didn't get to start any printing jobs, but am ready tomorrow! I took the Sunshine round ripple lap blanket to work, drapping it over the office chair & Fr. ~Mike came & picked me up after work. We went to Susan's to replace a bulb in her car. She hasn't driven her car since her foot surgery & the battery was dead! After jumping it, Mike replaced the bulb.

Lap Blankets & Shawls

Prayer Shawl in Shades of Roses(rose pink, country rose & claret). This was the first prayer shawl I made & the starting chain was too wide(75 stitches).I now know to make it 60 stitches wide. Alternating dc & dc,ch 1.
Diamond Prayer Shawl in RHS Medium Thyme. I wanted a pattern that was "unisex". Used a K hook & modified the pattern I used to use for the Diamond lap blanket.
Diamon Prayer Shawl in Caron Pounder Deep Violet(closer in shade to the color dot).Used a J hook & it is slightly skinnier, but still wide enough.
Playful Plaid lap blanket.
Color Block lap blanket-one of my favorites!

~Date Nite was fun(not ouchies this time!).We went back to fundamentals of shooting & also shot in the dark with flashlights. The Oatmeal cookies I brought were devoured!

Sunday, January 24, 2010

Mmmmmm!

Oatmeal Cookies-the recipe I use makes a HUGE batch,so I almost always seperate the dough & use chocolate chips in one & butterscotch chips in the other. Both are yummy, but I prefer the chocolate! They are relaxing on a dessert plate that I purchased, along with a matching tea cup,at the Goodwill for $1.99.

~Since Susan decided not to go to church, I wore my kilt with tights & packer boots.Mike was afraid it would look like "naughty school-girl", but where the skirt was below my knees,it was okay. I dropped off Oatmeal cookies at Napa for Jason & Bryan & took 2 bottles of pancake syrup to the kitchen(for the Pancake Brunch next week),before going into church.I habded out bulletins & took up the Elements.

~The Vestry meeting was moved from 1pm to 12pm,right after church,so I went over & got snacks & brought them back to the conference room. They got a 2010 budget passed, but barely, with alot of raised voices.

~Back home,I gathered recyclables & had made my tea whenI realized I had forgotten to go to the thrift store for a new coffeepot carafe. Mike dropped it in the sink this morning & broke it. I got one for $3.99, cleaned it,then found it didn't fit! It was too short & too wide.I took it back, got one taller & it didn't fit either! We will have to get a new coffee pot.

~I made a special-order Cheyenne Hat in Bernat Softee Chunky New Denim Heather.

~I made Mike a chicken bacon cheese sammie for supper, while I had a cabbage salad.

~I finished the Yellow/White round ripple blanket. It is about half-way between a lap blanket & couch blanket in size.

Headline from the Abq Journal-01/22/10

Quilt & Rocker

The little rocking chair(just the right size for Teagan!)was purchased at a yard sale last year for $10,which seemed like alot to me at the time, but I liked the dark color. Mom later said it was a good deal! The little patchwork quilt, about 36" square,I got back in December for $5. I used it as a skirt for the base of the Christmas tree.To me,these 2 items say "country"!

~I made a new cookie, Chocolate with Peanut Butter Chips, using a recipe I found online. I have found it useful to also look at the comments left by othesr,to see how theirs turned out. I used a combo of Crisco & butter, equal amounts of wheat & white flour, extra vanilla and 3/4 c Splenda & 1/4 c brown sugar. These have to be the BEST cookies I have ever tasted!! They are tasty, with a light texture, not hard, slightly chewy.AWESOME!!

Sorry restaurant owners...

...but,until SB-40 is passed,I refuse to disarm myself to eat at your establishment. Examples:Chili's, Buffalo Wild Wings, Yanni's, Savoy, Tomato Cafe, Papa Felipe's, Applebee's. It is already illegal for me to become intoxicated while carrying concealed,so why not pass this law?
~Mike drove me to work.It was a fairly slow day until Norm came in with end-of-year reports that had been done in pencil & had to be transferred to spreadsheets. But,it turned out not to be too bad.I am going to change the layout of the 2009 Quarterly Reports back to the 2008 style, which makes more sense to me.

Dump Bars-Two Versions

The name doesn't sound very pretty, but these bars are so easy to make & modify! The basic recipe will be followed by modifications. Lemon Craisin Coconut Bars
Ginger Coconut Bars.
You'll Need:
1/2 c. butter,melted
1 2/3 c. crumbs for crust(cookies,crackers,cereal,etc)
1 c. flavored chips(chocolate,vanilla,butterscotch,peanut butter,etc)
1/2-3/4 c. chopped nuts
1 c. flake coconut(I always use the Kroger brand unsweetened kind found at Smith's)
1 can sweetened condensed milk
To Make:
~Spray 9"x13" pan with cooking spray. This is very important, especially the sides. The sweetened condensed milk will stick badly to the sides & make the edges too hard.
~Pour melted butter in pan to coat the bottom evenly.
~Layer crumbs, flavored chips, nuts & coconut.Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over all ingredients.Bake 25-30 minutes(bake til just slightly brown on top) in 350-degree preheated oven.Cool completely(I leave mine in the pan, covered, overnight)before cutting into squares.

Lemon Craisin version:
Anna's Lemon Flavored Thins(I get mine in a 2-pack at Big Lots),1 pack for crust.
Vanilla chips
3/4 c. brazil nuts(we get the big containers of deluxe mixed nuts at Costco or Sam's.The Brazil nuts are our least favorite,so I pick them out & put them in a container to use for these bars.)
Ginger version:
Anna's Ginger Flavored Thins(2-pack from Big Lots),1 pack for crust.
1/2 c each chocolate chips & vanilla chips
Variations:
Anna's Flavored Thins also come in Almond Cinnamon,Cappuccino,Chocolate Mint,Orange & Vanilla Chocolate Chip.I like these because the crush good in my little chopper & aren't too sweet. The one pack is just the right amout!
I have also used Ritz crackers for the crust.Gives the bars a saltier taste.Vanilla wafers worked, but were pretty tasteless.Cheerios gave the bars an "oaty" taste.
For the chips,I have used leftover mini chocolate bars leftover from Halloween.
Butterscotch chips are good with the Ritz cracker crust.
Peanuts are good, almonds not as much.I have also used mixed nuts.
You can use sweetened coconut,I just prefer the unsweetened. You get ore of a coconut taste.

You can add or subtract just about anything!
I would like to hear your versions!

For with you is the fountain of life;in your light we see light.Psalm 36:9
